The Future of Catamarans: Easier to Use and More Customizable

Two weeks ago in Bordeaux, Boris DIAW attended the christening of the Lagoon 38.

The boat of tomorrow will be easier to use, opening it up to a wider audience for purchase or rental. While sailing is important, we are also working to make port maneuvers easier, such as with camera systems similar to those found in cars today for parking. In general, boats will be increasingly connected, aiming to facilitate use. For several years, all Lagoons have been equipped with the Seanapps application, a sophisticated system developed by the Bénéteau group, allowing owners to remotely monitor the status of their onboard equipment and organize maintenance with their authorized service center.

I also believe that catamarans of the future will be increasingly customizable to meet the expectations of users who are spending more and more time onboard. Some owners are buying catamarans to live and work on, rather than apartments. Some telecommute, while others organize their lives by offering themed cruises, such as cooking with a top chef, diving, kite surfing, or windsurfing. At Lagoon, we have historically mastered this on our larger units, managing customization internally according to customer desires. We are also developing this on the rest of the range with approved providers who can meet these expectations.
