SISAB Integrates AI to Enhance Property Management, Achieving Energy Savings and Improved Comfort
SISAB (Skolfastigheter i Stockholm AB), the company responsible for Stockholm’s school properties, is demonstrating significant progress by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its property management practices. This initiative has led to notable reductions in energy consumption and a decrease in tenant complaints across its portfolio of over 600 properties.
Since 2018, SISAB has collaborated with Schneider Electric and Myrspoven to explore how AI and digitalization can make the management of educational facilities more sustainable and energy-efficient. This partnership focuses on data-driven maintenance strategies that enhance both comfort and long-term sustainability, without requiring extensive overhauls of existing systems.
The Challenge and the Solution
SISAB manages over 600 properties, serving more than 200,000 children, youths, and adults daily. Given the scale of operations, even minor improvements can have a substantial impact. Digitalization and AI have become central to how the organization addresses energy consumption, comfort levels, and long-term sustainability.
“Typically, discussions about energy savings raise concerns that indoor climate quality will suffer. However, we’ve managed to improve indoor temperatures while simultaneously saving energy. We deliver the right temperature, in the right classroom, at the right time. By better understanding the usage patterns within our buildings, we can now adjust the climate throughout the day, adapting to how the spaces are actually used,” says Niklas Dalgrip, Business Area Manager at SISAB.
Redefining Property Management with AI
This transformation is not just about adopting new technology; it’s about fundamentally redefining what property management entails.
“It all started with our ambition to connect every building into a single technical network, creating a structure that allows us to make decisions centrally. We needed what you might call a ‘brain’ for property management. With approximately 600 properties, 3,000 buildings, and 1.8 million square meters spread across Stockholm, it’s simply impossible for humans to manage everything manually,” concludes Niklas Dalgrip.
Key Benefits of AI Integration:
- Reduced energy consumption
- Improved indoor climate and comfort
- Data-driven decision-making
- Enhanced long-term sustainability
- Efficient management of a large property portfolio
