Macron Praises Mistral AI and Nvidia Partnership at VivaTech
“Your partnership is a game-changer. It will strengthen our technological sovereignty and our strategic autonomy.” On the stage of the VivaTech trade show on Wednesday, June 11, Emmanuel Macron lavished praise on the initiative announced a few hours earlier by the French artificial intelligence start-up, Mistral AI, and the American world leader in AI-dedicated chips, Nvidia. “It’s historic,” the President of the Republic even said to CEOs Arthur Mensch and Jensen Huang, who were present at his side. Mistral will offer a “European platform” dedicated to AI and equipped with Nvidia processors, starting in 2026.
“You are moving up the value chain,” Mr. Macron justified, addressing Mistral AI. Until now, the start-up, founded in 2023, has mainly developed AI models that compete with those of OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or Meta, whether for language processing, computer code assistance, or complex tasks requiring “reasoning,” as demonstrated by the launch on Tuesday, June 10, of Magistral.
But with “Mistral Compute,” unveiled this Tuesday with Nvidia, the company is stepping into the field of computing power, the needs of which are growing to train and operate AI models. “This is a decisive step because it allows us to master a critical vertical in the value chain of this technology,” explained Arthur Mensch in the press release.
