Bali 5.2: A New Era of Catamaran Cruising
The Bali 5.2 catamaran isn’t just another boat; it’s a statement. Building on the success of its predecessors, this model carves its own niche, offering a compelling blend of luxury, adaptability, and cutting-edge technology. Positioned as a more accessible alternative to the 5.4, the Bali 5.2 adapts the best features of larger models into a versatile package suitable for both private owners and the charter market.
Open-Space Living: The Bali Signature
The defining feature of the Bali 5.2 is its innovative open-space design. The signature tilting and pivoting door seamlessly merges the saloon and cockpit into a vast, unified living area. This design maximizes natural light and ventilation, creating an unparalleled sense of openness. The solid foredeck, replacing traditional trampolines, transforms into a comfortable lounge area with direct access from the saloon via a watertight door, enhancing both convenience and safety. The rooftop offers a panoramic terrace with an ergonomic helm station, adaptable sunbeds, and seating for socializing. The transformable aft platform creates a Beach Club, perfect for swimming, water sports, and relaxing by the water.
Uncompromising Comfort and Design
Every detail onboard the Bali 5.2 is designed to enhance the feeling of spaciousness and comfort. The interior design, a collaboration between Berco Design + Piaton, blends warmth and elegance. The U-shaped galley rivals modern apartments, featuring a large double-door refrigerator, freezer, and ample counter space for gourmet meal preparation, even on extended cruises. The saloon boasts a large L-shaped settee and an oversized table, ideal for gathering the entire crew. The cabins, available in three to six configurations, each include a private bathroom, ensuring privacy and comfort. The goal is to create a floating home where you can live as comfortably as you would on land.
Advanced Technology and Unrivaled Autonomy
Innovation extends beyond comfort. The Bali 5.2 features a 48V electrical system, typically found on superyachts. This system effortlessly powers cooking appliances, air conditioning, and energy-intensive equipment like watermakers, while minimizing energy loss. With lithium batteries and an optional 4,200W solar kit covering the hardtop, the Bali 5.2 offers exceptional autonomy. Large 1,200-liter tanks for both water and fuel further enhance its ability to venture far from shore for extended voyages. This is a true assurance of freedom for those who love long-distance cruising.
Sailing Performance and Handling
While Bali is known for its spacious interiors, the shipyard hasn’t forgotten the importance of sailing performance. The Bali 5.2 features a 94 m2 square-top mainsail, a 70 m2 overlapping genoa, and can be equipped with a 105 m2 code 0. These features ensure solid performance, even in light wind conditions. Twin 115 HP Yanmar engines provide smooth and reliable power, particularly during harbor maneuvers or in challenging weather.
“Not to offer less, but to adapt our offer to both charter and private owners.” – Boris Compagnon, commercial and marketing director of the Catana group.
The market reflects this dual focus, with approximately 50% of units expected to be used for charter, and the remainder sold to private owners attracted by the flexibility and comfort. Several charter companies have already chosen this model, while private owners have been convinced by its versatile layout.
A Vision for the Future of Cruising
The Bali 5.2 represents the shipyard’s ambitions. With three production facilities operating at full capacity, Bali is also testing hybrid and electric versions. The shipyard is taking a cautious approach, ensuring 100% reliability before releasing these models. The direction is clear: Bali is preparing for the future of yachting, focusing on enhanced autonomy, sustainable technologies, and ever-increasing comfort.
The Bali 5.2, presented in Cannes, is a major innovation in the 50-foot category, confirming the brand’s commitment to innovation.
