BENETEAU Group Recognized for its Commitment to the Circular Economy in Boating

An Alliance Committed to the Circular Economy

A project uniting six leading companies – Arkema, Veolia, Composite Recycling, Owens Corning, Chomarat, and Groupe BENETEAU – is dedicated to creating a comprehensive circular economy model for composite materials. Together, they have established a fully operational industrial loop, enabling the mass production of boats incorporating recycled raw materials.

This chain is based on five key steps:

  • Design: Integration of Elium® recyclable resin developed by Arkema.
  • Collection: Recovery of production waste managed by Veolia.
  • Recycling: Separation of components via thermolysis, a technology of Composite Recycling.
  • Transformation: Production of new resins and glass fibers (Arkema, Owens Corning, Chomarat).
  • Reuse: Construction of new boats by Groupe BENETEAU using these recycled materials.

Since 2022, Groupe BENETEAU has built over 40 recyclable boats, demonstrating the industrial strength of the model. This approach reduces CO2 emissions by 70% compared to conventional polyester materials.

While rooted in the nautical industry, this project also demonstrates the potential of the circular economy for other sectors using composites, such as automotive, aerospace, renewable energy, and construction.

Collective Strength Honored

The Innovation Team Best Practices trophy annually recognizes exemplary co-innovation initiatives with significant societal impact. It is awarded by a jury composed of the Club de Paris des Directeurs de l’Innovation, the European Institute for Creative Strategies and Innovation, and the Entrepreneurship, Territory and Innovation Chair of the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

“This award honors both the Innovation teams of Groupe BENETEAU and a collective industrial dynamic. We are proud to have contributed, with our partners, to this structuring advancement for the entire nautical sector,” says Erwan Faoucher, Innovation Director of Groupe BENETEAU.

Special Mention to Other Laureates

Groupe BENETEAU congratulates the other companies recognized at this 18th edition of the trophy: Airbus, Agence Innovation Défense, BASF, Bouygues, Futuroscope, Michelin, Oto Chair, Petites Éclosions, RATP, Saft, and Valeo.
