APER Elects New President and Outlines Strategic Priorities

Following elections this year, members of APER (Association for Eco-Responsible Boating) – manufacturers, importers, and distributors of new recreational boats within the REP Plaisance sector – have renewed their Board of Directors. The Board subsequently elected its officers. The following companies are represented on the Board, illustrating the diversity of the sector:

  • GROUPE BENETEAU
  • BRUNSWICK
  • YAMAHA
  • GRAND LARGE YACHTING
  • FOUNTAINE PAJOT
  • CHANTIERS AMEL
  • Z NAUTIC
  • HOBIE CAT
  • POLYMIUM
  • NICOL’S YACHTS

Groupe Beneteau nominated Clarence Duflocq, already a director, to succeed Erwan Faoucher as President, who will remain on the Board. Clarence Duflocq, Head of Investor Relations and CSR Coordination at Groupe Beneteau, becomes the third President of APER. He aims to continue the development of this young sector and consolidate its strategic priorities, including:

  • Ensuring the economic sustainability of the REP Plaisance sector.
  • Integrating environmental criteria into the eco-contribution scale.
  • Providing financial support to boaters for transportation costs.
  • Strengthening the territorial network in mainland France and its overseas territories (DROM-COM).
  • Continuing and accelerating projects and partnerships related to recovery, reuse, and recycling.

What is APER?

APER (Association pour la Plaisance Eco-Responsable) is an eco-organization approved in 2019 and re-approved in 2024 by the State, created at the initiative of the Federation of Nautical Industries (FIN). APER offers the possibility for all types of applicants (individuals, professionals, communities…) to have their end-of-life recreational boats dismantled, recycled, and recovered free of charge. The free dismantling is ensured by two sources of APER funding:

  • A mandatory eco-contribution, collected from its members (the marketers) on each sale of new boats in France.
  • Supplemented by a share of the annual tax on personal watercraft (TAEMUP), paid by the State to the eco-organization.

Thanks to APER, since September 2019, approximately 14,000 end-of-life boats have been removed from ports, beaches, backyards, or shipyards, and have been taken care of within our national network of treatment centers, specializing in dismantling and recycling.
