Swedish technology group Ependion, focusing on digital solutions for industrial applications, has set ambitious growth targets. Tailwinds from global megatrends and strategic acquisitions are expected to pave the way for future success.

Ependion has established itself as a leading player in digital solutions for secure control, management, and data communication in industrial environments. The company is organized into two business units: Westermo and Beijer Electronics.

Westermo is a market leader for communication networks on trains, where new cybersecurity regulations are driving growth. The business unit also has a strong position in the energy sector, where the digitalization of electricity grids creates new business opportunities. The recent acquisition of the German company Welotec further strengthens the business unit’s position in the energy segment.

Beijer Electronics has a strong position in the marine sector for operator panels, so-called HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces), where the transformation towards increased sustainability is a key growth factor.

The unit has recently undergone a major transformation with a more focused strategy and significant investments in next-generation technology platforms, which CEO Jenny Sjödahl describes as “the best on the market.”

“Our strength lies in combining a high level of technology with a global presence. We are present in 21 countries and have production on several continents, which gives us both reach and flexibility,” she says.

The recent establishment of a Westermo unit in India is another example of growth initiatives.

Investing in Infrastructure

Ependion operates in segments that are less sensitive to economic cycles and where long-term trends such as digitalization and electrification drive demand. The need to modernize critical infrastructure, along with new regulations regarding cybersecurity and sustainability, creates structural growth.

“All these trends drive long-term growth within our segments.”

The group has set a target of at least 10 percent annual organic growth.

“We have high ambitions and see great potential in our focus segments. Our strategy is to grow both organically and through acquisitions, while continuing to invest in new technology. I also see great potential in utilizing all the major investments we have made as a catalyst for future growth,” she says, adding:

“We want to be a partner for our customers in their digital journey and contribute to a more sustainable and secure future.”
