Cannes Yachting Festival 2024: A Sneak Peek at What to Expect

The Cannes Yachting Festival is gearing up for another impressive year, with organizers overcoming logistical challenges and preparing to showcase a wealth of new vessels and innovations. Sylvie Ernoult, a key figure behind the event, shared insights into the preparations and what attendees can anticipate.

Overcoming Logistical Hurdles

Despite significant construction work in the Vieux Port, the festival is on track. Ernoult explained:

“The setup is well underway, with trucks and partners arriving on August 11th. We’ve faced considerable logistical challenges due to the Vieux Port renovations, striving to minimize their impact on visitors. We’ve implemented a very different logistical system, and I’m pleased with its effectiveness.”

She acknowledged the inevitable last-minute changes common in the industry, noting that commercial aspects are still being finalized.

A Record-Breaking Showcase

This year’s festival boasts impressive numbers:

  • 711 boats: More than last year.
  • 677 exhibitors: Up from 640 the previous year.
  • 147 world premieres: A significant increase from 120 in 2024.

Notably, there will be 29 sailing premieres and 88 multihulls on display. The yachting sector will feature 120 boats exceeding 24 meters in length, with approximately 70 of these being brand new. Ernoult emphasized the importance of yachting to the festival, calling it “the heart of the show and a symbol of the industry’s strength.” Furthermore, around 40 yachts from brokers will be present, including three exceeding 50 meters.

Innovation Route and Green Initiatives

The festival is placing a strong emphasis on innovation. Ernoult highlighted the “Innovation Route,” stating:

“We received 120 applications and selected around 40. This was a priority for us this year; we professionalized and consolidated the selection process with specialized experts. We’re designing the Route to attract visitors, offering a unique tour alternative. New generations are particularly interested in innovation and green initiatives, so this showcases the industry’s efforts to innovate and protect the planet.”

To further promote exhibitors, the festival will feature studios on each port, providing a platform for live presentations and social media content.

New Features and Enhanced Navigation

This year introduces a “Power Cat Village” at Quai Max Leboeuf, dedicated to motor catamarans, featuring 25 vessels.

To improve visitor experience, a web application will be launched, aiding in locating specific boats, exhibitors, restrooms, and restaurants.

Leadership Transition

Ernoult is preparing for retirement in March, with Constance joining the team in February. This year-long transition aims for a seamless handover.

The Importance of the Cannes Yachting Festival

Ernoult underscored the festival’s significance:

“With over 700 boats, the Yachting Festival opens the season. We’re fortunate to have numerous new models fresh from the shipyards. Despite market challenges, the festival continues to thrive because it’s essential for exhibitors to maintain visibility. As the largest in Europe and the first of the season, it’s a must-attend event to optimize their presence. It’s exciting to be involved, as the festival serves as the industry’s starting point, and I hope it will see a strong resurgence this year.”
