RM 1180 Sea Trials: A Hands-On Experience

This type of real-world trial offers a direct and concrete approach to experiencing a boat. Unlike a simple boat show, it allows you to appreciate its seaworthiness, maneuverability, handling, and layout, while interacting with the technicians on board. It’s an opportunity to verify if this sailboat aligns with a personal project for long-distance cruising, fast sailing with a small crew, or simply family coastal cruising.

An Iconic Model from the RM Range

The RM 1180 was first introduced in 2020. Designed by Marc Lombard’s firm and developed internally by RM Yachts’ design office, it follows in the tradition of the brand’s high-performance cruisers. With its 12-meter length, this plywood-epoxy monohull embodies a modern vision of a cruising sailboat: a distinctive and dynamic design, careful construction, and choices designed for long-term comfort.

Its deck layout facilitates maneuvers, with centrally located winches allowing everything to be managed from the cockpit. The helm position offers good visibility and real comfort while sailing. Under sail, performance is excellent, both in light winds and in rough seas.

A Bright and Well-Designed Interior

One of the most notable features on board the RM 1180 is the interior ambiance. The very open companionway, the headroom, the natural light provided by the side and front windows, and the fluid layout of the galley and saloon create a pleasant living space, especially during long stopovers. The choice of wood for the hull also contributes to thermal comfort by limiting condensation.

The interior, simple and functional, has been designed to adapt to both family life on board and solo or duo sailing. Chart table, storage volumes, head, and cabins offer a certain modularity without sacrificing aesthetics.

An Opportunity Not to Be Missed

This week of private trials is aimed at enthusiasts curious to discover the specific features of this model at sea. Slots are limited and require prior registration to ensure sufficient time for discussion and sailing to get a clear idea of the sailboat’s capabilities.
