Scandic Expands Scandic Go Offering in Finland with New Hotel in Turku

Scandic continues to grow its Scandic Go brand in Finland with the establishment of a new hotel in Turku. This centrally located hotel, featuring 138 rooms, strengthens and complements Scandic’s existing offerings in the region, which is expected to experience strong growth in tourism, business, and culture.

Since 2024, Scandic has accelerated the expansion of the Scandic Go brand, which has been well-received by both guests and property owners. The hotel chain is now opening a new Scandic Go in Turku by converting part of the former Scandic Atrium, while the main building remains under renovation. The renovation of the hotel is scheduled to begin in August 2025. With the establishment of Scandic Go, Scandic is broadening its hotel offerings in the region with a new hotel that provides smart, affordable, and sustainable accommodation.

“Our continued expansion of Scandic Go in Turku is perfectly timed, given the city’s active focus on urban development with significant projects, such as the construction of an event arena that attracts both business and leisure visitors. With our new hotel, we also meet the growing demand from a new, more conscious generation of hotel guests,” says Jens Mathiesen, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels Group.

The building will undergo extensive renovation, starting in August 2025, and is planned to open in the second half of 2026. With its 138 rooms, the hotel has been identified as an ideal match for the Scandic Go concept due to its central location and efficient design, with proximity to the city’s main sights and attractions. In line with the increased demand in the hotel market in Turku, Scandic sees good opportunities to strengthen its position and respond to the growing demand from both national and international guests.

“We are delighted to open more Scandic Go hotels in attractive hotel destinations. Turku, as an exciting city undergoing growth, is important to us, and I am convinced that our new Scandic Go will be a perfect complement to our existing offerings,” says Jesper Engman, Senior Vice President Portfolio Development.

The new Scandic Go in Turku has a central location between the developed port and university area. The hotel offers parking facilities for guests and is easily accessible by city buses and bicycle stations, with walking distance to the main square.

Turku is a popular destination and also a gateway to the Finnish archipelago, and the Turku region is the country’s fourth largest. Thanks to its geographical location, the city is a waterway for international cruise traffic as well as passenger and freight traffic to and from Sweden. Turku is also known as a summer city with its beaches and many events. The region is also a significant hub for business, especially for industries in shipping and technology.

After the opening, Scandic will operate a total of 881 rooms in Turku. The operation of the new Scandic Go meets the requirements for the Nordic official eco-label Svanen. As previously announced, openings of Scandic Go are also planned in Oulu and Helsinki in Finland.
