SEA.AI Awarded at Cannes Yachting Festival for its Watchkeeper System

SEA.AI’s Watchkeeper Wins Innovation Route Award for Enhanced Maritime Safety

SEA.AI’s Watchkeeper system has been awarded the prestigious Innovation Route Award, recognizing its groundbreaking technology designed to improve safety, comfort, and performance at sea. Selected from over 120 candidates, Watchkeeper stands out for its ability to detect and classify hazards that are often invisible to radar or AIS systems.

Detecting the Undetectable

Watchkeeper excels at identifying a range of potential dangers, including:

  • Floating debris
  • Unlit buoys
  • Marine mammals
  • Persons in the water

This capability is particularly crucial at night or in conditions of reduced visibility, significantly mitigating risks associated with harbor entries or navigation in congested areas.

Powered by Advanced Technology

The system is built around 4K wide-angle optics, optional thermal imaging, and an AI engine trained on millions of maritime objects. Watchkeeper provides real-time danger assessment and alerts to the crew. According to Marcus Warrelmann, CEO of SEA.AI, “Winning this award is an immense honor, not only for the technology but also for the entire community that made it possible.”

From Ocean Racing to Global Availability

Since 2018, SEA.AI (formerly known as OSCAR) has honed its expertise through partnerships with offshore racing teams, gathering crucial data in extreme conditions. “Our early adopters were pioneers; their feedback shaped every stage of the product. Today, thanks to our distributors, this technology is available to crews worldwide,” Warrelmann added.

Affordable Safety for All Vessels

With a starting price of €4,990, the Watchkeeper range is designed for a wide variety of vessels, from offshore sailing yachts to fast motor yachts. The system is easy to install and integrate with existing onboard systems. It is available in seven configurations with a sleek design in black or white. The intuitive interface requires minimal training, and LTE connectivity ensures continuous software updates and real-time support.

Early Adopters Praise Watchkeeper’s Simplicity and Effectiveness

Initial feedback from users has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Watchkeeper offers a real innovation in AI, accessible and practical. Safety is enhanced without adding complexity,” says owner Marco Bocchieri.

Captain Riccardo Spatolisano (Azimut 26 Grande – MY BK) echoes this sentiment: “The system immediately identifies objects and remains very simple to use. Cutting-edge technology made surprisingly intuitive.”

SEA.AI is currently showcasing Watchkeeper, bolstered by its recent award, at its booth, reinforcing its position as a leader in augmented maritime vision and its commitment to making navigation safer.
