Trump Announces “Truth-Seeking” AI Mandate

Donald Trump displaying his signed decree at an AI summit in Washington, July 23, 2025.

“The American people do not want woke Marxist madness in artificial intelligence models, and neither do other countries.” On Wednesday, July 23, Donald Trump announced that the U.S. federal government would henceforth only work with AI systems aimed at “seeking the truth” and “ideological neutrality,” as outlined in a new decree signed by him. This marks the culmination of a long series of attacks from the American right against major AI models, which they deem too biased. It also raises profound technical, philosophical, and political questions.

For several years, criticism had primarily come from the other side. Trained on vast databases of human origin (notably the masses of text available on the Internet), AIs tend to reproduce biases, sometimes offering racist or sexist results. American companies behind these programs, which often presented themselves as progressive, sought to correct this by attempting to impose rules preventing their AIs from generating such results.

The new decree mandates that AI development within the government prioritize:

  • Truthfulness in information processing
  • Elimination of ideological bias
  • Adherence to traditional American values

Critics argue that defining “truth” and “ideological neutrality” is inherently subjective and could lead to censorship or the promotion of specific political agendas. The implications of this policy shift are far-reaching and could significantly impact the future of AI development and deployment in the United States.
