Gilles Gressani and the Intellectual Refreshments of “Le Grand Continent”
The brand-new ice cream maker is full of airy mango ice cream. Wearing mid-calf socks and a tie carefully knotted around his neck despite the Parisian heatwave, Gilles Gressani offers a taste of coolness. In early July, the co-founder, with Mathéo Malik and Ramona Bloj, of the highly regarded online journal Le Grand Continent, in 2019, is preparing to spend a good part of his summer in Paris. Indeed, every morning during the summer period, at 8:15 a.m. on France Culture, alternating with his colleague Florian Louis, the political analyst addresses a geopolitical issue at the heart of current events.
In four minutes, one or the other offers an understanding of the contemporary world “through the reading of the texts that structure it,” which the site’s followers have already been able to read online. Several dozen contributions are published there daily: “briefs” nourished by infographics, long analyses (on the role of artificial intelligence in reducing Internet traffic, the consequences of the trade agreement between the United States and Europe…), interviews, but also robust “pieces of doctrine” (a plea for a French culture of coalition, the White House’s desire to transform the Catholic Church, etc.).
Le Grand Continent presents itself as a platform for in-depth analysis and diverse perspectives on contemporary issues. Gressani and his team aim to provide readers with the tools to understand the complexities of the modern world through rigorous research and insightful commentary.
