Epiroc and Hindustan Zinc Partner to Enhance Mine Safety with Anti-Collision Technology

Epiroc AB, a leading productivity and sustainability partner for the mining and infrastructure industries, has entered into a strategic partnership with Hindustan Zinc Limited in India. The collaboration aims to deploy Epiroc’s advanced anti-collision system across Hindustan Zinc’s underground mines, significantly boosting safety measures.

Hindustan Zinc’s Commitment to Safety and Innovation

Hindustan Zinc, a part of the Vedanta Group, is India’s only and the world’s largest integrated zinc producer. The agreement between Hindustan Zinc and Epiroc will see the implementation of Epiroc’s collision avoidance solution in all five of Hindustan Zinc’s underground mines, located in Rajasthan, India. The deployment will be phased, starting with the Sindesar Khurd mine, one of the world’s top five silver-producing mines. Initially, the anti-collision system will be installed on 30 low-profile trucks and will monitor 100 miners.

Epiroc’s anti-collision system is designed to be compatible with all vehicles, regardless of the manufacturer.

“Our collaboration with Hindustan Zinc is a groundbreaking advancement in safety technology for mining,” says Helena Hedblom, Epiroc’s President and CEO. “The anti-collision system exemplifies how digital innovation leads to proactive risk reduction through intelligent sensing, real-time warnings, and autonomous vehicle control. We are proud to partner with Hindustan Zinc to implement this flexible, scalable solution that protects personnel while also improving mining operations. Together, we are establishing a global benchmark for safer and more efficient underground mining.”

Driving Efficiency and Sustainability Through Digital Solutions

Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc Limited, emphasizes the importance of strategic metals in the transition to clean energy and modern technology.

“Strategic metals like zinc, lead, and silver are fundamental to the transition to clean energy and modern technology. As the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, Hindustan Zinc embraces digital innovations that enhance safety while improving productivity. The introduction of Epiroc’s anti-collision system in our mines will further solidify our commitment to efficient operations and technological leadership. This initiative will lay the foundation for further implementation of intelligent safety solutions across our operations, leading to safer, smarter, and more sustainable mining.”

Epiroc offers a range of digital solutions that enhance safety and productivity for mining and construction companies worldwide. These solutions include connectivity, automation, mine planning, and operational support.
