LinkedIn to Leverage User Data for AI Training: Here’s How to Opt-Out
Starting November 3rd, LinkedIn will begin utilizing user data to train its generative artificial intelligence (AI). The announcement, initially made in a blog post, was followed by notifications to users regarding changes to the platform’s terms of service.
The Opt-Out Option
Fortunately, users have the option to decline this change. By navigating to the appropriate settings, individuals can uncheck the box labeled “Use my data to train AI models for content creation.”
What Data Will Be Used?
LinkedIn has clarified the specific types of information that will be used to train its AI. This includes:
- Profile data (name, photo, professional history, education, skill endorsements, location)
- Posts and responses to other users’ posts
- Contributions to group discussions
- A portion of interactions with recruiters
- Questions posed to LinkedIn’s AI
What Data Will Be Excluded?
Importantly, private messages will be excluded from the AI training data, as will salary information. Furthermore, LinkedIn stated: “If we have reason to believe that a member may be under the age of 18, for example, if they are currently in a secondary educational establishment or its local equivalent, we do not train generative AI models with their data, even if their preference appears enabled.”
Key Takeaways
- LinkedIn is using user data to train its AI.
- Users can opt-out of this data usage.
