Mercury launches the new Verado V10: 425 hp, 350 hp, and increased performance
Mercury Marine Unveils New V10 Verado Outboard Engines
Mercury Marine has announced the release of its new V10 Verado outboard engines, designed to deliver enhanced performance and a refined boating experience. According to John Buelow, President of Mercury Marine, these engines are a direct response to boater feedback, offering increased power while maintaining the smooth operation expected from the Verado line.
Key Features and Performance
Mercury has provided performance comparisons against competing models, highlighting the advantages of the new V10 Verado engines:
V10 Verado 425 hp
- Achieves 0-48 km/h in 3 seconds faster than a 450 hp competitor (tested on an 8-meter, 2.3-ton center console boat with a heavy load).
- Features a 150-amp alternator, the highest power output in its class.
- Operates 22% quieter at cruising speed compared to a 450 hp competitor.
V10 Verado 350 hp (Upgraded)
The upgraded 350 hp model offers improvements in top speed and mid-range acceleration:
- Reaches a top speed 4.3 km/h faster than a 350 hp competitor (light load test configuration).
- Accelerates from 0-48 km/h in 4 seconds faster and reaches top speed 17.8 seconds faster than a 350 hp competitor (heavy load test configuration).
- Provides four times the alternator power at cruising speed compared to a 350 hp competitor.
- Runs 40% quieter at cruising speed than a 350 hp competitor.
- Accelerates from 0-80 km/h 15% faster than the current Mercury 350 hp model due to improved mid-range torque.
Design and Compatibility
Built on Mercury’s compact V10 platform, both engines can be mounted with 26-inch centers, making them suitable for repowering boats originally equipped with Verado L6 engines or other outboard motors.
Digital Technology
Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) controls come standard on these new outboard engines. Joystick piloting is also available as an option.
Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS)
DTS provides smooth and quiet gear changes and instant throttle response. Integrated SmartCraft technologies and an intuitive user interface offer complete control. DTS features include intuitive functions for confident and precise boat handling. Ergonomic throttle handles ensure a comfortable connection to the propulsion system. With DTS, users can easily start, stop, and trim all or some engines, and transfer control to a second helm. Control up to four engines with the Premier Dual Handle Console Mount or up to six engines with the standard Dual Handle Console Mount. Active Trim activation and adjustment buttons are located directly on each DTS control, providing easy access to this GPS-based automatic trim system that improves performance, saves fuel, and simplifies operation.
Joystick Piloting
Joystick Piloting for Outboards (JPO) allows for total, intuitive, and effortless boat control. As the first joystick system of its kind for outboards, JPO is designed for multi-engine vessels equipped with two to six Verado outboard engines. It offers a premium boat piloting experience, optimized for the boat and engine combination. Mercury JPO makes maneuvering in tight spaces easier than ever by combining outboard engine thrust with bow and stern thrusters. Two versions are available for new installations powered by 175-600 hp outboard engines with DTS controls. The Premium version uses electric steering and is designed exclusively for Verado outboard engines. Adding the JPO bow thruster integration kit seamlessly integrates thruster control into the Mercury joystick.
Conclusion
Mercury has been developing outboard engines since 1939. With the new V10 Verado models, Mercury aims to deliver optimal performance and ease of maintenance. These engines represent a new era where performance is combined with ease of use and navigational comfort.
With these two new V10 Verado models, Mercury confirms its technological advancement and its desire to meet the concrete expectations of boaters. More powerful, quieter, more intuitive, these engines embody a new era where performance finally rhymes with simplicity of use and comfort of navigation.
