Musk and Trump: From “Bromance” to Breakdown?

Tech entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk’s close ties to former U.S. President Donald Trump were once described as a “bromance,” a fervent friendship between men. However, recent events suggest that relationship has soured.

The dispute reportedly began with Musk criticizing a budget proposal that would increase U.S. public spending. The situation escalated when the tech mogul accused Trump of being implicated in the investigation surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking scandal.

The post on Musk’s social media platform X was abruptly deleted without explanation.

Jan Hallenberg, a U.S. expert and professor emeritus of political science at the Swedish Defence University, believes Musk deleted the post of his own accord, realizing he had gone too far.

“At his angriest, he was prepared to terminate the agreements between his companies and the American government, but upon reflection, that would be too costly, especially for the space company SpaceX,” Hallenberg stated.

Hallenberg describes the relationship between the U.S. government and Elon Musk’s SpaceX as one of mutual dependence.

“There are no American rockets that can retrieve astronauts from the ISS space station without SpaceX. The alternative is to hire the Russians, with the consequence that the U.S. becomes completely dependent on them.”

Sources within the White House indicated that a conversation between Trump and Musk was being planned after the dispute, but Trump reportedly expressed no interest. Hallenberg believes a conversation will eventually occur.

“I think it will take time; they are both very hurt. I would guess that if anyone crawls to the cross first, it will be Musk.”
