The fall of the Grand Baou: a hidden treasure in the heart of the Var

Hidden Waterfall Paradise in the Var Region

Nestled near the village of Le Val, where the Ribeirotte river plunges from a cliff (the “baou” in Provençal), this site captivates with its raw beauty. A seven-meter waterfall cascades into a clear pool, creating an idyllic setting for a nature break. The water is cool, the surroundings are shaded, and the silence is broken only by the soothing murmur of the falls.

When the temperature soars, it’s pleasant to sit on the rocks with your feet in the water, or even take a dip at the base of the waterfall. Feeling adventurous? Follow the discreet path that runs along the right bank: it leads to a hidden cave just behind the curtain of water, a secret gem for exploration enthusiasts.

This bucolic spot belongs to Mr. Guigues, who had the wonderful idea of opening it to the public. Access to the waterfall is free, provided you respect the site. And to extend your visit, you can have lunch on site: Mr. Guigues’ inn, located nearby, offers simple and tasty homemade cuisine, prepared with fresh products. All served with a smile, facing the lush greenery and the murmur of the river.

Please note: Picnics are not allowed on site, a rule implemented to preserve this fragile ecosystem. This choice helps to keep the site clean, calm, and unspoiled, away from mass tourism. The access, which is a bit steep, is not suitable for strollers.

How to Get There

From Brignoles, follow the direction of the commune of Le Val via the Carcès road. On your left, a few kilometers away, a discreet path branches off from the road: take it. At the end of about a hundred meters, turn right into a field. At its edge, a descent opens onto an unexpected landscape: the Grand Baou waterfall awaits you, peaceful and wild.

Often overlooked by guides, this preserved place deserves to be discovered with respect and curiosity. A well-kept secret of the Var, to be savored away from the summer bustle.

Before you go, consider checking the weather forecast and downloading a mobile application for marine weather.
