Alstom Expands Swedish Presence with New Stockholm Office Focused on Sustainable Rail Solutions
Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has inaugurated a new office in Stockholm, Sweden, signaling a significant investment in the country’s railway infrastructure. The opening ceremony, held on August 19, 2025, was attended by prominent figures including Andreas Carlson, the Swedish Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, and key industry stakeholders.
Strategic Investment in Swedish Rail Innovation
The new Stockholm office is designed to foster collaboration and enhance communication between departments, with the goal of developing innovative and sustainable solutions for the railway sector. A key feature of the facility is the inclusion of several advanced laboratories dedicated to testing various systems, including the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS).
- Focus on ERTMS Development: The Stockholm office will play a crucial role in advancing ERTMS technology, a critical component of modernizing Sweden’s railway infrastructure.
- Advanced Testing Facilities: The on-site laboratories provide Alstom with the capability to rigorously test and refine its railway systems.
- Collaboration Hub: The office layout is specifically designed to promote teamwork and knowledge sharing among Alstom’s engineers and specialists.
Sustainability at the Core
Reflecting Alstom’s commitment to sustainable mobility and the circular economy, the new office was developed with a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility. Instead of constructing a new building, Alstom chose to renovate and modernize an existing structure, minimizing its environmental footprint. Furthermore, the company prioritized reusing materials from its previous office, donating or selling surplus items, and sourcing second-hand furniture whenever possible.
“We are continuing our investment in Sweden through this new office in Stockholm, which will give us better conditions to meet the increased needs for modernization and digitalization of infrastructure and signaling systems in Sweden,” says Maria Signal Martebo, Managing Director of Alstom Sweden.
Alstom’s Commitment to the Swedish Market
With over 700 employees in Stockholm, Alstom possesses a wealth of expertise in railway technology, particularly in signaling and infrastructure. The Stockholm office also houses a development center for signaling technology, whose products and solutions are exported internationally.
Alstom is the largest supplier in the Swedish train market, with over a thousand trains delivered to Swedish railways and several major maintenance contracts. The company is also leading the implementation of the ERTMS signaling system in Sweden, both on board vehicles and along the tracks.
