Mediterranean Sea: What water temperature for this first week of August?
Mediterranean Sea Temperatures Rise, Ideal for Water Activities
After a cooler end to September, the Mediterranean Sea is finally experiencing more summery temperatures. Due to a return of warm weather and calmer seas, the eastern part of the basin is seeing particularly high temperatures, sometimes exceeding 27°C. On the western side, temperatures are slowly rising, although the mistral and tramontane winds will still be present early in the week.
A water temperature of 22°C is comfortable for most swimmers, even without a wetsuit. These temperatures are forecast for the first week of August 2025.
Weather Explanation
The Azores High is regaining control over southern France this week, bringing a noticeable increase in air temperatures and more stable weather. While a final disturbance may affect the north of the country on Tuesday, the south will experience summer conditions from Monday, with calmer seas and plenty of sunshine. The mistral and tramontane winds will blow intermittently until Wednesday, but not as strongly as in previous episodes. As a result, upwelling is weakening, allowing the water temperature to rise, especially along the coasts of Provence and Languedoc.
Recommended Water Activities
The week looks ideal for water activities, with water temperatures exceeding 25°C on the French Riviera and in Corsica. Paddleboarding, diving, sailing, and swimming will be popular.

With the return of a strong high-pressure system, the contrasts between the east and west of the Mediterranean are gradually fading. While the mistral and tramontane winds will still blow early in the week, temperatures are rising sharply, especially from Thursday, when the entire coastline should experience warmer and more pleasant water for summer swimming.
