Wellcraft 38 T-Top Review: The Supercar of the Seas
Wellcraft 38 T-Top: A Floating Platform for Life
Act I – Dawn, Sea, and Adrenaline
It’s 6:30 AM. The lapping of the waves is still gentle, the sky slowly brightening. You head out to sea for a sport fishing session. At the helm, the Wellcraft 38 T-Top flexes its muscles: three Mercury Verado engines, each with 350 horsepower, propel the hull at high speed with remarkable stability. The steering is precise, intuitive, almost exhilarating. At the rear, everything is designed for action: integrated livewell, rod holders, spacious cockpit. The boat is not only high-performing but also remarkably practical.
Act II – High Sun, Maximum Comfort
Once the lines are reeled in, it’s time to relax. The sun awning is set up above the rear seating area, bathing the scene in a soft and welcome shade. While the children play safely, the adults enjoy a well-deserved aperitif on the comfortable benches. The finishes are refined, the spaces well-designed, the storage plentiful. This is far from a simple fishing boat: here, the art of living takes precedence.
Act III – Escape on a Whim
Why go back? The 38 T-Top has everything you need to extend the getaway. Below deck, a spacious cabin accommodates two adults for the night. A functional bathroom, an integrated refrigerator, a griddle, and even an ice maker (optional) allow you to serenely consider a weekend at anchor. The morning’s catch transforms into a convivial dinner, laughter echoing under the stars. This boat is not a toy; it’s a true floating platform for life.
Act IV – The Sky Gets Angry, the Boat Reassures
The weekend is coming to an end. The sky darkens, the wind picks up. But the Wellcraft 38 T-Top remains unperturbed. Its hull, designed to face the elements, confidently charts its course. On board, no one is worried. The feeling of control is total, the comfort remains supreme. Luxury here is the ability to navigate without questioning.
A Closer Look at the Engine
With its two or three Mercury Verado engines to choose from (the test model had 3 x 350 hp), the boat offers lightning-fast acceleration. The top speed easily exceeds 50 knots. The joystick is very precise for maneuvering, smooth and intuitive. The steering is direct, very pleasant, and the hull ensures exceptional stability in turns and on straightaways. Despite its power and size, the boat remains quiet, with very good sound insulation. Fuel consumption is logically high but consistent with the performance and weight of the unit. As for the electronic equipment, it’s by Garmin, with large touch screens, readable and responsive. The interface is intuitive and rich in options: mapping, sonar, engine control, etc. This is top-level equipment.

Epilogue – Seanapps, the Connected Boat
Back at the port, the experience doesn’t stop there. Thanks to the Seanapps application, the owner keeps an eye on their boat: battery level, maintenance, security… Everything is centralized and accessible remotely. A real plus for those who want to navigate with peace of mind, always ready for the next outing.
The Verdict?
The Wellcraft 38 T-Top ticks all the boxes: power, elegance, safety, comfort, connectivity. A family supercar, certainly, but tailored for the sea and unforgettable memories. A boat that makes you want to cast off… again and again.
To Improve?
However, a few points could further enhance the user experience. The boat is offered in an elegant black and white livery, sober and sporty. But more advanced customization options – colored hulls, alternative upholstery, wood or carbon finishes – could appeal to customers seeking exclusivity. On the technical side, a slightly more generous fresh water capacity and reinforced cabin insulation would further increase cruising range.
The Pros
- Excellent build quality
- Spectacular performance
- Interior and exterior finishes
- Very complete equipment (fishing, comfort, electronics)
- Versatility: fishing, cruising, leisure
The Cons
- Bathroom a little small for a cruising program
- Significant consumption at full throttle
- Too powerful for some water sports (classic skiing)
