With his Hawaiian shirts, goatee, and mullet, Palmer Luckey, the founder of the American start-up Anduril Industries, is shaking up the defense industry, even its image. Founded in 2017, when he was only 25 years old, his company has become a symbol of the digital and economic revolution in a sector shaken by the deployment of artificial intelligence (Anduril Industries’ initials are, in fact, the A and the I of artificial intelligence) and by the need to produce faster, in mass, and at lower costs to meet the demands of states.

In eight years, Anduril has won several contracts with the Pentagon, including the development of an autonomous fighter jet, the Fury, exhibited for the first time in Europe at the Paris Air Show, which closes on June 22. A few years ago, such an emblematic project would never have escaped the American big five of defense (Boeing, General Dynamics, Lockheed-Martin, Northrop Grumman, and RTX). In 2024, Anduril already generated $1 billion in revenue. And the company is now targeting Europe.
