Orient Express Unveils World’s Largest Cruise Sailing Ship in Saint-Nazaire
Orient Express Launches World’s Largest Sailing Yacht: The Corinthian
In Saint-Nazaire, on June 16th, Orient Express Sailing Yachts marked a significant milestone with the launch of the Corinthian. After four and a half months of assembly, the vessel left the dry dock of the Chantiers de l’Atlantique to reach the outfitting quay, initiating the final stages of its construction. Measuring 220 meters in length, it officially becomes the world’s largest sailing yacht.
A result of a partnership between Orient Express and Chantiers de l’Atlantique, this exceptional yacht is distinguished by its SolidSail wind propulsion system, a world first in the cruise industry. Three tilting masts each carry a rigid sail of 1,500 m2, designed to offer optimal comfort while sailing. This system is complemented by a latest-generation hybrid engine powered by liquefied natural gas, enabling cleaner and quieter navigation.
The Corinthian also integrates several technologies designed to limit its environmental impact: an artificial intelligence-assisted detection system reduces the risk of collision with marine mammals, while a dynamic positioning system avoids anchoring to protect the seabed.
A High-End Sailing Yacht Designed as a Floating Palace
On board, architect Maxime d’Angeac has designed spaces inspired by both the golden age of railways and the refinement of grand historical ocean liners. The 54 suites, ranging from 45 to 230 m2, are equipped with large bay windows and raised ceilings, offering a sense of space rarely seen at sea. Multi-starred chef Yannick Alléno, already in charge of the kitchens of the Orient Express train, is responsible for the catering.
The Corinthian will embark its first passengers in June 2026 for itineraries in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas until October. Twenty-seven different routes, ranging from two to fourteen nights, will be offered, with the possibility of combining them according to preferences. The ship will then head to the Caribbean in the fall.
A New Era for High-End Travel
The Corinthian is the first of a series of two cruise sailing yachts announced by Orient Express. The second, named Olympian, will set sail in the summer of 2027. These launches are part of an ambitious strategy led by Accor and supported by LVMH, aimed at reinventing the luxury travel experience.
The brand, founded in 1883, is thus reinforcing its return to the forefront with prestigious hotels in Rome and Venice, a new train called La Dolce Vita in 2025, and soon, the return of the mythical Orient Express on the rails. The Corinthian embodies this vision: a cutting-edge ship, designed to redefine the standards of cruising, between artisanal excellence and high technology.
